Saudi Arabia has announced that its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed four drones that were flying toward the strategic Shaybah oil field, one of the kingdom’s major energy facilities located in the remote Rub al-Khali desert.
According to a statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Defence, the drones were detected while approaching the oil installation deep inside the Empty Quarter region. Saudi air defence units quickly responded, tracking the incoming aerial objects and neutralizing them before they could reach their intended target.
Officials confirmed that the drones were intercepted in the airspace above the Rub al-Khali desert, an area known for its vast sand dunes and its proximity to several key energy installations. The Shaybah oil field is considered one of Saudi Arabia’s most important oil production sites and plays a significant role in the kingdom’s energy output.
The ministry described the interception as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to protect critical infrastructure and maintain stability in the region. Saudi defence forces continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that vital energy facilities remain secure.
